VEHICLE STICKERS: Vehicle Stickers are no longer required. The voters approved a referendum in April 2007 to increase the local sales tax by 1/2% to 7% in lieu of paying for vehicle stickers each year.
DOG TAGS: All dogs kept within the village must have a valid rabies vaccination and be registered with the Village. Dog tags are $10.00 each.
WATER AND SEWER BILLS: Water and sewer bills are sent out on or around the 5th day of every other month and are due on the 30th of that month (except for Sundays and holidays). Charges for residential refuse collection are also included on these bills. A schedule of rates is available at the Village Hall. HYDRANT FLUSHING: The Department of Public Works flushes hydrants within the Village every Thursday (weather permitting). Hydrant flushing helps to clean the water mains and improve water quality. However, flushing also stirs up rust in the mains which can cause rusty water for a short period of time. We suggest that if you plan to do laundry on Thursdays, wait until the evening and test your water for rust to avoid staining of clothing, etc. or contact the Village Hall to ask if flushing will be done in your area that day. Due to the hardness of the water in our area, hydrant flushing is very necessary even though it can be a temporary inconvenience. HIGH GRASS AND WEEDS: It is unlawful to permit any grasses or weeds to grow a height exceeding eight (8") inches anywhere in the Village. HOUSE NUMBERING: It is the responsibility of the owner and occupant of every house in the Village to have house numbers at least two and one half inches high placed on their residence in a location visible from the street showing the proper street number of the house. Free house numbers are available at the Village Hall. TORNADO WARNING SIRENS: The Village's warning sirens are tested on the first Tuesday of each month at 10:00 a.m. If the sirens are activated at any other time, this means a severe weather emergency, (such as a confirmed tornado or funnel cloud) has been detected in close proximity to the Village and residents should seek cover immediately. The sirens will make a high-pitched tone for a period of three minutes and the warning shall be in effect for a period of one hour. (The Village does not sound an "all clear" siren.) Warning sirens are located on Miller at Catalpa and on top of the police station on Penfield Street. When the weather appears threatening, don't rely solely on sirens to protect you and your family. Stay indoors and monitor local television and radio stations for watches and warnings! Remember, you are the person most responsible for your safety! PARKING REGULATIONS AFTER A SNOWFALL: For a period of twenty-four (24) hours after a snowfall of two (2") inches or more, it is illegal to park on the Village streets or in any public parking space commonly maintained by the Village in the business district between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. Violators are issued a ticket by the Police Department either before or during snow removal and vehicles that pose a traffic safety hazard may be towed.
