Our town of Beecher, Illinois was settled in the late 1800s and was established in 1870 as a quiet farming community. The community was named after Henry Ward Beecher, a congregational pastor, and it became a village in 1884. Although farming still abounds our area, Beecher is a growing city, located just 37 miles south of Chicago. Illinois. State Route 1 runs through the center of town and connects to the Bishop Ford Freeway on the north. Beecher is well-known for its excellent schools and quiet rural lifestyle. But, as a result the short commute to Chicago and its South Suburbs, employment and most other typically desired amenities are readily available to our quaint and appealing village. Beecher is located in Washington Township and is part of the greater Will County Region. However, due to its close proximity to the Indian state line, Beecher, as well as several other nearby communities, are more commonly considered part of Illiana. Illiana is the region around the Illinois and Indiana state line. It comprises the eastern edge of the state of Illinois and the western edge of the state of Indiana. On both sides of the state line, there is a common bond among the residents. It is quite common for interstate commuters of either Illinois or Indiana to travel several miles to work or shop on the other side of the state line.
